In solidarity with protests for sexual and reproductive rights and health in Poland

Last month, the Polish Constitutional Tribunal ruled abortion unconstitutional in cases of serious and irreversible foetus defects. In practice this means an almost total abortion ban, as the vast majority of legal abortions in Poland is performed in such cases. The ruling inscribes itself in a recent trend in Poland of serious attacks on women and LGBTQI+ rights. It was met with mass protests – the largest ones in several decades in the country.

We, the board of the Swedish Association for Gender Researchers, express the solidarity with women and other people whose right to legal, safe and free abortion has been restricted.
